Posted on: 12 March 2014

The two-day Oman HEMI Gathering 2014, sponsored by the MOPAR division of Oman’s leading auto dealer Dhofar Automotive and organized by  the HEMI Club of Oman proved to be a great occasion for the HEMI enthusiasts from the Sultanate to meet, drive and win awards on behalf of their HEMI-powered Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles.

The event comprised a vehicle rally on the first day and an awards and entertainment evening the next day. Twenty-five HEMI engine enthusiasts, along with friends, participated in the rally from Wattaya to Jebel Sifah and back on March 7, and vied for honors at the awards and entertainmentfunction the next day.

On day one, christened the Parade Day, the motorcade negotiated the winding, rocky terrains, and headed for the charming Jebel Sifah. After lunch at the Sifawy Boutique Hotel the team returned to Muscat through Qantab, followed by an evening parade beginning at Mutrah Corniche and ending at Shatti Al Qurum.

Two Mopar technical experts assigned by Dhofar Automotive were ever-ready throughout the drive to address any technical snags; but no glitches were reported, vindicating the customers’ faith in the Chrysler brands.

The next evening all the HEMI advocates assembled at Muscat College, Baushar, to take part in a host of vehicle and photography competitions and entertainment complete with DJ and skater shows.

“Dhofar Automotive’s Mopar division caters for the entire accessories and after-sales needs of Chrysler vehicles including Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Mopar’s sponsorship of this rally of HEMI enthusiasts is in line with our continued support and care for Chrysler brands which use the powerful and state-of-the-art HEMI engine,” said Roderick Lloyd, After Sales Manager at Dhofar Automotive.

Appreciating Mopar’s quality-driven service model, Abdullah Al Zadjali, one of the rallyists, said: “Mopar’s customer service standards and capabilities as well as the ready availability of the whole range of Chrysler vehicle accessories make Mopar the best in the after-sales industry.”

Ali Al Lawati, from the HEMI Club, acknowledged the continued support extended by Dhofar Automotive to the HEMI Club since its foundation in 2007.

“We essentially looked at the engine performance, customization aspects of accessories, as well as interior and exterior aesthetics during evaluation. Old HEMI engines that are maintained well were given additional weightage,” said one of the judges from Dhofar Automotive, who inspected the vehicles.

Dodge Charger emerged as the clear winner in most categories. Rashad Al Zadjali’s Dodge Charger was adjudged the best stock vehicle, while best performance award went to Dodge Charger owned by Abdullah Al Zadjali. Saud Al Abri collected the best overall prize for his Dodge Charger, and Abdullah Al Ajmi’s Jeep Wrangler grabbed the best 4x4 title. Ibrahim Al Dirie’s Chrysler was awarded the best exterior title. The awards were sponsored jointly by Mopar and HEMI Club.

The award by PPC Oman and HEMI Club for the best modified vehicle was shared by Dodge Charger and Chrysler, owned by Haroon Al Zadjali and Ali Al Iqabi respectively.

A total of 50 cars, of which 32 belonged to the HEMI Club, vied for the awards, attended by 40-plus HEMI enthusiasts.

HEMI Club Oman was founded in 2007 for owners of Jeep, Chrysler, Ram, Dodge and Mopar enthusiasts to meet and exchange ideas, and is the first HEMI club in the GCC, and Dhofar Automotive is the authorized dealer of these top US brands in Oman.
